Today in Australia they are taking to the streets to demand dignity in childbirth. When researching Why Human Rights in Childbirth Matter I was shocked to learn about the 'mandatory' evacuation of indigenous women in Australia, the lack of investment in 'on country' birth facilities despite promises and evidence that they are wanted and work. Homebirth can be a struggle for many women to get access to and, as here in the UK, there's a rising awareness that some women are being traumatised by what happens to them in birth.
