You’ve got something to say...let’s get it out there!

Writing Course Birmingham, by Rebecca Schiller. Next running 23/11/19 and 24/11/19
A course to develop your writing skills taught by me: a birth activist turned journalist and Penguin Books author. You’ll learn how to use your unique voice to help improve pregnancy, birth and parenting for all: whether that’s attracting more clients via your website, writing blogs or pitching and writing for wider audiences and getting paid to do so.

Practical support, tips and exercises will build your confidence and help you craft powerful blogs, make your website sound like you or get you pitching to national publications. Together we can tell stories that could change the world.

As a doula, charity founder and women’s rights in childbirth campaigner I know that we need a greater diversity of voices writing about motherhood, pregnancy, birth and beyond. We have the power to tell stories that need to be heard, to bust myths and offer compassionate support through the words they write on our websites, blogs and in the wider media. We often have a need to find the right voice for our websites or professional listings that attracts clients to the services that could transform their parenting experience.

I know that writing on a public forum (even your own website) can be intimidating. It can be hard to know where to start and I want to help. I believe in you and think you have something to say. I want to help you find your voice, even if writing isn’t something that comes naturally to you. I want you to get your writing out to a wider audience if it’s something you love.

I’m not scary and I’m not brilliant at spelling and grammar myself. I know there’s no right way to write, just as there’s no right way to give birth. Writing is about the story, the message and the heart and I know you have that by the bucket-load. Let’s get it out there!

Why me?

I know the struggles that many of you see and face. I understand the issues you want to cover.  I know how to get it out there. I want you to get paid.

I’ve built a career as a freelance journalist writing for national and international publications including: The Guardian, The Pool, The Telegraph, Marie Claire, Stylist Magazine, The Week, The Independent and more. I’ve written for maternity trade press such as the RCOG Magazine, The International Journal of Birth and Parent Education and Midwives Magazine.

I’ve written three books that sell to an international audience. My books have been reviewed by The New Statesman and endorsed by leading midwives, obstetricians, doulas, celebrities and new parents alike.

As a doula I’ve written powerful blogs that have driven traffic to my website, helped me book clients and have been picked up and given prominent place on popular sites like Mumsnet.

I’ve also written newsletters, press releases and website copy for charities, brands and my own work so I understand how to craft successful campaigns, build loyalty and get press coverage.
